Dermatology Specialist Dr. Arif Baysan shed light on the questions about Psoriasis, known among the public as "Sedef" (pearl disease).

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that occurs when the immune system sees skin cells as a threat and goes on the attack. Silver-colored scales and redness are its most typical appearance.

Is it contagious?

This is the biggest misconception; psoriasis is never contagious. It is not passed from person to person by contact. Therefore, it is very important for their psychological health that patients are not isolated from society.

Is treatment possible?

Although there is no drug yet to completely eliminate the disease, we can suppress the disease for life with PUVA (light therapy), biological agents, and new-generation creams. At the Gazi Hospital Dermatology clinic, we apply a personalized treatment protocol for each patient.
