Dr.Emin Alp ALAYUNT’un pediatrik cerrahi ile uğraşmaya başlaması ekim – kasım 1988 tarihleri arasında MAYO Clinic Rochester Minnesota’ya gönderilmesi ile başlamıştır. Mayo Clinic te bulunduğu süre içinde Dr. Gordon Danielson ve Fransisco Puga’yı izleme fırsatı buldu. 09/06/1992 tarihinden itibaren kendi adına pediatrik konjenital kalp ameliyatları yapmaya başlamıştır.
Kasım 1993-Ocak 1994 tarihleri arasında Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia da (CHOP) Dr. William Norwood ile çalıştı. Standart pediatrik vaka skalası dışına çıkabilmek ve özellikle komplex kardiak/pulmoner anomalilerin tedavisini görmek için 1998 yılında , Dr. Frank Henley ‘i izlemek üzere UCSF San Fransiscoda 3 ay kaldı.
Pediatrik ameliyatların yapılmasının ötesinde eğitiminin de güvenli ve kaliteli bir şekilde yapılabilmesi için kurumsallaşma gereği duydu ve üniversite içindeki yetkin arkadaşlarının bulunduğu ekibi oluşturdu , bu şekilde pediatrik kalp damar cerrahisi fiilen kurumsallaşmış oldu. 1-2-2010 tarihinde mevcut kanun ve yönetmeliklerin yaptırımları doğrultusunda üniversiteye tam zamanlı olarak dönmüştür. 30-12-2010 tarihinde üniversiteden ayrılarak özel sektörde çalışmaya başlamıştır.. Halen İzmir Özel Gazi Hastanesinde hem erişkin hem pediatrik ameliyatları yapmaktadır.
