Aort ve mitral kapak hastalıkları, kalp kapakçıklarının düzgün çalışmadığı durumlardır. Aort kapakçığı, kalpten vücuda kan pompalayan aortta bulunur. Mitral kapakçığı, sol kulakçık ile sol karıncık arasında bulunur.
Aort kapakçığı hastalıkları, aort kapakçığının daralması (aort darlığı) veya aort kapakçığının yetmezliği (aort yetmezliği) olarak iki gruba ayrılır. Aort darlığı, aort kapakçığının daralmasıyla karakterizedir. Bu durum, kanın aorttan vücuda pompalanmasını zorlaştırır. Aort yetmezliği, aort kapakçığının yeterince kapanmaması ile karakterizedir. Bu durum, kanın aorttan geriye doğru sol karıncığa akmasına neden olur.
Mitral kapakçığı hastalıkları, mitral kapakçığının daralması (mitral darlığı) veya mitral kapakçığının yetmezliği (mitral yetmezliği) olarak iki gruba ayrılır.
